My name is Chris Johnson. My entire life has been centered around the pursuit of exploration and challenging endeavors that involve a commitment to resourcefulness, leadership and teamwork. As a child and into my adulthood, these priorities have allowed me to spend years traveling in foreign countries, paddling 1000s of miles down rivers, and bicycling across America. The combination of these circumstances allowed me to create a sense of clarity in regards to linking passion and profession.
My professional career has been completely focused on the holistic growth and development of youth, through service with experiential education and recreation. I spent several years as a Program Manager with SOAR, a boarding school committed to providing an alternative approach to traditional education for students with learning differences. Following that, I had the opportunity to work with Outward Bound on Thompson Island in Boston Harbor, as the Operations Manager, creating experiences for groups of teens that supported the development of communication, service, and courage.
Much of my personal time is spent enjoying the outdoors through adventurous activities. I am certified as a Wilderness First Responder, ACA Kayaking Instructor, and PADI Open Water Diver. I also appreciate the time to build, create, and grow a variety of things. Most importantly, I enjoy exploring all the sounds and smells of the world with my wolf pup London.
One of my favorite quotes is by Kurt Hahn – “There is more in us than we know. If we can be made to see it, perhaps for the rest of our lives, we will be unwilling to settle for less.”
I am excited and privileged to continue my own development, and pursuit of passion through the opportunity to join Ironwood’s leadership team. It is inspiring and humbling to see these amazing teens navigate struggle, to then persevere and become successful in their own lives.
