Ironwood Maine Web Update

Teamwork. Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”

This week at Ironwood we have been practicing a good amount of collaboration in our day-to-day lives. We went on a field trip in Belfast, endured Hay Day, and enjoyed some S’mores.

The eligible Farmhouse residents went on an excursion in Belfast to the Celtic festival, where we saw people throwing giant hammers for distance and chasing cheese down a hill. It was really amazing to see and partake in this celebration of culture within a nearby community.

This trip also gave us practice with budgeting our allotted lunch money. There were a variety of food trucks, so everyone found something that they liked. Towards the end of our outing, we all pooled what money we had left to buy ice cream, which we wouldn’t have been able to do alone. This was one of many excellent demonstrations of collaboration throughout this week.

Another example of the exceptional collaboration that we, as a campus, are capable of was while doing hay. We unloaded a total of seven hundred and fifty-six bales of  hay on Tuesday to be put up and stacked in the loft at the barn. It was extremely hard work, but everyone carried and stacked hay until we were done and had a good attitude about it. Several Frye residents were able to come up for a while, which was a huge help, and it was great to see a mixture of campuses able to work together so well. This was an arduous experience that I think brought us closer together as a community. We celebrated our hard work with popsicles and cold showers after almost four hours of unloading hay. On the same day, Mike B. surprised us with S’mores as a reward for our patience and cooperation the previous day. So, that evening, we made a fire and roasted marshmallows while enjoying the overcast weather.

To conclude, we’ve had a pretty swell week here; we survived Hay Day, which was a major success, and because of our effort, the horses will get fed through the winter. We enjoyed ice cream as a reward for our splendid collaboration at the Celtic festival. Overall, this week has been a huge success and is something that all of us can be proud of.
