The Scenic Mid-Coast Maine

About Mid-Coast Maine
Ironwood is located approximately 20 miles northwest of Camden, Maine in a rural setting adjacent to Maine’s pristine Frye Mountain Wildlife Management Area. The two nearest major airports include Bangor (approximately 45 miles away, 1 hour 15 minute drive time) and Portland (approximately 95 miles away, 2 hours 10 minute drive time).

Accommodations are available nearby in Belfast, Camden and Rockland. Visitors to Maine's beautiful middle coast will find a large variety of bed and breakfasts, old-fashioned cottages and modern hotels to suit any preference or budget.

Visitors will be amazed at the breath-taking ocean views and mountainous rocky shores dotted by numerous island lighthouses.

Situated 11 miles from Ironwood, Belfast is a charming harbor town known for its antique shops, galleries, museums, and restaurants. Camden, located on Penobscot Bay, is renowned for its islands, coves and bustling harbor of white-sailed schooners and lobster boats. The picturesque harbor features fine dining, shops and art galleries.

Rockport, just south of Camden, is home to Maine Coast Artists Gallery, Bay Chamber Concerts and Maine Photographic Workshops. Rockland, home to the Farnsworth Art Museum/Wyeth Center, is world famous for its mountainous rocky shore, many harbors and inlets, and the best cruising waters for sailing and boating.

Bucksport’s waterfront offers a fantastic view across the Penobscot River, where visitors can explore Fort Knox, a massive granite fortress built in the 1840s. Nearby Searsport features the Penobscot Marine Museum.

Visitors are welcome to sign on for sailing lessons, spend a day hiking through scenic Camden Hills State Park, or enjoy fine dining of a traditional Maine lobster bake. Activities also include windjammer tours, whale watching trips, summer garden tours, fall foliage festivals and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.
