What We Treat
We at Ironwood understand that families try their very best to connect with and help their child, yet parents find themselves feeling helpless and worried. Some teens simply need more than we, as parents, can offer. Ironwood can help you assess whether our program is right for your child. Over the years Ironwood has developed a "specialty" if you will, in working with teens who are good kids but whose behavior is currently not acceptable. Common behaviors and issues include some combination of the following: Poor self-esteem Lack of motivation Mood swings Negative peer influence Poor academic performance Lack of caring Withdrawn Distancing themselves from family Lying, stealing, secretive Defiant to authority figures Bright yet drifting Socially awkward Physically challenged Abusing substances Out of control Charming and manipulative ADD, ADHD Addictions Anxiety disorders Associating with wrong peer group Bereavement Cutting, self-harm Depressive disorders Disengaged families Grief Hopelessness Learning disabilities Mood disorders Oppositional defiance Post-traumatic stress Substance abuse Victims of abuse and neglect Our experience is that teens often have hidden issues that need to be uncovered and dealt with on a professional level in an environment where the student feels comfortable and trusts the staff. However, Ironwood is not able to work with teens who have the following history: Schizophrenia Major mental illness Physical violence Other psychotic disorders Sexual abuse perpetrators Youth convicted of a violent crime Medically unstable individuals Ironwood's skilled therapists are experts at treating troubled teens' emotional and behavioral disorders, without having teens fall behind in school. Most residents advance an entire grade level during their stay. Teens who have previously been hard to reach find success at Ironwood – it’s what we do, it’s our specialty. |
