My name is Carl Smith. I was born in Massachusetts and grew up in Maine and Iowa. I spent 9 years in the Marine Corps and 22 years in the Maine Air National Guard. I have been a Deputy Sheriff, Police Officer and Chief of Police. I have been active in scouting as a Cub Master, Scout Master, Explorer Advisor, and OA Advisor. I currently serve in the Civil Air Patrol and work with the cadet program. While at Ironwood I have observed how the program helps turn troubled teens around and I’ve watched our teens leave here as responsible young adults with respect for others and themselves.

My hobbies and interests are horses, boats and flying. I enjoy working with young adults and firmly believe that there is no such thing as a “bad” kid. Over the years I have managed to turn several troubled kids around and have enjoyed the end result. My motto is: “Today is the first day of the rest of your life! What are you going to do with it?”
